6 Reasons Why You May Not Need a Professional Web Design Firm

It’s no big news these days that most businesses need a website. Businesses recognize the practicality of having an Internet presence. Whether you’re using the web to provide company information, for selling, for collaboration, to increase membership or for some other meaningful cause, the Internet is where people go to find what they want and need. But, then again you knew this.

So, as a business owner or decision maker the question isn’t do you need a website, but who will be the one to build your website. Will you hire a professional web design firm to build it? Or, will it be your cousin’s best friend, who read a book about web design and can’t wait to work on his or her first website? Maybe it’s your administrative assistant, who’s smart, creative, and would love to have one more assignment in addition to everything else she has to do. Then again, you are a self-made person and learning to build your own website is small potatoes for you – because you have the drive and all the time in the world to do it. Oh, so many choices. How will you decide?

Well today, my friend, I’m going to share with you that there are indeed times when you may not need a professional web design firm. Yes, there are times when your cousin’s best friend will do at designing your website. So, below I’ve outlined those six reasons why you may not need a professionally designed website:

  1. When you’re building a website just because everyone else have one,
  2. When you’re building a personal website for family and friends,
  3. When you don’t care how your business looks online,
  4. When saving money is more important than increasing revenue and profits,
  5. When having people visit (or driving traffic to) your site isn't important,
  6. When you think that building a website is the same as cooking a meal –
anybody can do it (Yes, there is a difference between a chef and a cook.)

In summary, if you’re looking to build a personal website then by all means feel free to do it yourself. If you don’t know why you want a website then it also may not matter who designs it. However, if you’re designing a business website and you want it to represent you online the same way a clean, professional physical location represents you offline, then you should think seriously about who’s building your business on the Internet.
